Peeps in Hot Water

Materials: Marshmallow peep, sugar packet and two glasses of warm water.

Process: Put the peep in the first glass of water. Open the packet and put the sugar in the second glass of water. Which dissolves first?

Result: The lose sugar will dissolved faster than the candy cane. The candy cane dissolves slower than the loose granulated sugar because the loose sugar has more surface exposed to the water. The sugar and the candy cane will dissolve faster the hotter the water. This happens because energy in hot water causes molecules to vibrate faster and thus breaks down the sucrose molecules in sugar faster.
