Halloween Magic Caused by Science
Everyone loves a good magic show and the season calls for magical potions. Here is a fun easy experiment to show 'magic' is based on science fact. Materials: Bowl of puffed rice cereal, wool cloth, and plastic spoon. Process: Rub the spoon with the wool cloth. Next place the spoon over the bowl of cereal. Result: The puffed rice grains will jump onto the spoon and then into the air. Why? The cereal is attracted to the intuitively charged spoon so they attach to the spoon. However, as electrons pass from the spoon to the cereal they develop the same charge. Like charges repel - just remember the old romantic
saying 'opposite attract' - and thus the puffed rice flies away from the spoon.
