Materials: Pencil and a friend
Process: Hold the pencil above your friends slightly open fist and tell them to grab it as you drop it.
Result: The pencil falls. When your friend's eye sees the pencil drop, his/her mind received a signal to grab it but the delay in time from the signal to the brain to the action by the hand allows the pencil to fall. The time lost between thought and action is reaction time.
If you drop the pencil yourself between hands, you grab the pencil before it falls. This is because your commands to drop and grab are simultaneous.
