WELCOME TO SCIENCE FOR SENIORS!
Science for Seniors brings science programs to residents of independent, long term care, assisted living and personal care, dementia and adult day center communities. Our hour-long programs are designed to intrigue, challenge and inspire. Gloria Hoffner, the Founder and President of Science for Seniors, is a Certified Activity Professional and winner of the 2010 NCCAP (National Certification Counsel for Activity Professionals) Best Practice Award. She is a contributing editor and monthly columnist for Creative Forecasting Magazine and a columnist on activity program ideas for about.com. She has spoken at state and national activity and long term care conferences and is always available to speak to activity professional groups.
Her book,”Science for Seniors: Hands-On Learning Activities,“ was published in 2011 to widespread acclaim, and has been a go-to reference for activities professionals throughout the United States.
Her commitment to serving the community began years ago when she was a reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer, where she often wrote about under-served and under-reported communities, and developed a strong commitment to older adults. During this time, as part of a community band, she played monthly concerts at various nursing homes. There she met many activity directors, with whom she went on to develop close professional relationships. In 2006, she was offered a two hour/week job playing guitar at a local nursing home. She LOVED it. The rest, well, is history.
At Science for Seniors we are serious about science, but we believe in presenting it in a way that reminds us of the beauty of the natural world, and the fun of discovery. And we believe that sharing these discoveries brings us closer together.
